Freelance musician, performing and teaching recorder in Scotland with active study and involvement with members of the Flanders Recorder Quartet, and Antony Baldwin (organist and composer) as accompanist.

After teaching himself recorder up until the age of 16, Ed studied recorder with Jenny Hill at Douglas Academy as well as trumpet and piano before gaining a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he studied recorder with Rebecca Miles, Ashley Solomon, Marion Scott, Rachel Beckett and Belinda Sykes. He participated in many solo and chamber activities with recorder in many different genres from Renaissance to electro acoustic. He also played in the college big band under the direction of Keith Tippett. From 2002 – 2012 he was the leader of the Scottish Recorder Orchestra and a member of the quartet, Flauti Animati Scotica. He is musical director of the Aberdeen branch of the Society of Recorder players and conducts the chamber recorder group in the city, ACRO. He has being teaching recorder in Primary schools for The Moray Council through the Youth Music Initiative since 2004 and privately since the late 90s having had pupils sitting grades from 1 – 8 on recorder mainly but also on trumpet and piano.
